HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Police removed overnight roadblocks on several exits from Route 41 into Highland Park Thursday night. The 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly exit closures were announced Tuesday for Park Avenue West, Clavey Road, eastbound Central Avenue and westbound Deerfield Road. Exits to Lake Cook Road remained open. According to a statement from city staff, the closures were a precautionary measure taken in coordination with other North Shore police departments. Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka police have all closed exits into their communities in recent days, in some cases requesting Illinois State Police to enforce the ramp closures. Highland Park Police Chief Lou Jogmen said Highland Park police officers handled local road closures, which he said were ordered to allow police to better allocate resources elsewhere. In a statement announcing the reopening of the exits, city staff promised to "closely monitor developments in coordination with area law enforcement agencies."
