LIVERMORE, CA — The Real Estate Alliance of Livermore helped equip more students facing distance learning with laptops and WiFi hot spots, according to the Bay East Association of Realtors.
Realtors set out to raise $25,000 for the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District by auctioning off plan rides, helicopter rides, a high-end purse, a Tahoe trip and more, the association said in a news release. Local businesses and realtors donated items.
Though the district had loaned out some 3,000 laptops, it needed another 80, according to the association.
But thanks to the fundraiser, LVJUSD was able to secure additional computers and WiFi hot spots for the students. In years past, local realtors have helped raise money to fill backpacks, bolster teachers' classroom supplies and more.
"Connecting students to teachers online goes beyond teaching and learning," said Philomena Rambo, Director of Community Engagement for the district, in the news release."This connection provides social emotional support which is so very important during this pandemic."
