HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. INCIDENTS CAR BURGLARYA resident in the 900 block of Stonegate Drive reported someone broke into a locked car at some point between 11:45 a.m. Aug. 28 and 12:30 p.m. Sept. 1, stealing change from the armrest inside. CRIMINAL DAMAGEOn Sept. 3, damage was discovered to the Highland Park Historical Society picture across from the north door at the train station, 1700 St. Johns Ave., including a scratched out letter. It was not known when the damage occurred. THEFT FROM RESTAURANTA woman in her late 50s or early 60s stole a jar of jam from That Little French Guy Patisserie and Cafe at 1791 St. Johns Avenue, police were told around 8 a.m. on Sept. 4. A bakery representative reported the same woman also stole two jars of jam on March 18. Police the woman paid $22.56 for the jam and was banned from returning to the restaurant. No charges were filed and no citations were issued. THEFT On the afternoon of Sept. 5, police were told someone stole about 30 wood rods, each 3 feet tall, that marked the north and west property lines on a home in the 1600 block of Cloverdale Avenue during an unknown timeframe. ARRESTS Brandon A. Hamilter, 32, of the 300 block of Whitewater Drive, Bolingbrook, was arrested around 8:45 p.m. Aug. 31 following a traffic stop near Skokie Valley and Half Day roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and without a valid license. Officers also cited him for not having insurance, driving without lights, improper lane usage and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle Leon Thornton III, 23, of the 100 block of S. Forest Ave., Hillside, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. Sept. 1 following a traffic stop near Skokie Valley and Lake Cook roads. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. Police also cited him for improper lane usage, a bad right turn and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver. Mariusz Zdunczyk, 44, of the 8500 block of West Lawrence Avenue, Norridge, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. Sept. 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at the southbound Edens Expressway and Lake Cook Road. He was also cited for improper lane usage. A 35-year-old Highwood man was pulled over at Park Avenue West and Green Bay Road around 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 3 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and cited for use of a cellphone while driving. An 18-year-old Lake Forest man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. Sept. 3 following a traffic stop on northbound Skokie Valley Road at Park Avenue West and charged with speeding more than 35 mph above the limit. Andray A. Thomson, 43, of the 13800 block of Western Avenue, Blue Island, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Sept. 4 and charged with retail theft for allegedly using or possessing a theft detection shield device at the Sunset Foods, 1812 Green Bay Road. A 19-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. Sept. 5 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also cited for speeding between 26 and 34 mph above the limit. Tony Ayala, 26, of the 600 block of Wilson Avenue, Park City, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Sept. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an encounter with police in the 1000 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued an improper lane usage citation. Robert A. Worth, 57, of the 1000 block of Auburn Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 2 p.m. Sept. 7 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash near the intersection of St. Johns and Central avenues.
