LIVERMORE, CA — East Bay Area residents will now have the option of sending text messages to 911 as the Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center authorized the option Monday.
The communications center joined many other agencies in the region in allowing the text message option for those who are deaf, hearing or speech impared or are in situations where it may be too dangerous to make a voice call to 911.
The center serves the cities of Alameda, Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Livermore, Newark, Pleasanton, San Leandro, Union City, and various unincorporated communities.
