Learn the basics of using heat, hammer, and anvil to form metal into beautiful and useful objects in this 5-week class. Learn the basics of using heat, hammer, and anvil to form metal into beautiful and useful objects. In this class, you will be introduced to fundamental blacksmith skills including tapering, bending, cutting, twisting, dishing, and planishing while making small projects, such as spoons, forks, bottle openers, and hooks. This introductory techniques class is offered either as five 3-hour sessions over five weeks or as a 2-day intensive with two 7.5-hour sessions, see class listings for available dates. Prerequisites: NoneAge Limit: 13+ (Students under 18 must be enrolled with an adult who is also enrolled).Important: The 5-week class runs on the following dates: Session 1: March 7, 14, 21, 28, April 4The intensive two day session runs: Session 2: April 16+17Please wear work boots or shoes made from leather or canvas (no nylon, it melts!). Wear natural fiber clothing (cotton is best). Safety glasses are required and will be provided, but if you have a pair you're comfortable in, consider bringing your own.
