LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's Office made several arrests and issued over 130 citations during the recent Thanksgiving Traffic Safety Campaign. According to a sheriff's office news release, the sheriff's office arrested five people for impaired driving during the campaign which took place Nov. 22 through Dec. 2. Out of the 135 citations issued by the sheriff's office, 46 were citations for seat belt and child safety seat violations, according to the news release.
Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this effort to save lives by getting impaired drivers off the roads and more people buckled up
Because statistics show the most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur during late-night hours, extra emphasis was placed on enforcement during this time frame, according to the sheriff's office.
