MOUNT VERNON, NY — Police tracked down the suspect in a fatal weekend shooting to a home in the Bronx with help from a federal task force. A Mount Vernon man was arrested on Sunday in connection with gun violence that left a man fatally wounded in the street in a normally busy area. Heyward Bradshaw III was arrested early Sunday evening on Palmer Ave. in the Bronx, police officials said. Bradshaw was being sought by the Mount Vernon Police Department for the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Kwasi Kirton, also from Mount Vernon. Bradshaw and Kirton had been involved in an altercation late on Friday night that turned deadly, officials said. During the altercation, Bradshaw fired at Kirton with a semi-automatic handgun, striking him several times, according to police. Kirton was taken to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital where he died. The shooter fled the scene, but Mount Vernon police detectives, working with the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, spent the weekend searching for Bradshaw. Investigators were able to track Bradshaw to a home on Palmer Avenue in the Bronx. As detectives and federal agents were watching the home, Bradshaw left with two other men and he was taken into custody without incident. Bradshaw has a criminal history that dates back to 2006 and includes arrests for weapon possession, burglary and criminal contempt, according to police. Bradshaw is scheduled to be arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court on Monday.
