Medfield BSA Troop 89 Donates To Local Non-Profits For 26 years, the scouts of Medfield's Troop 89 have been collecting Christmas trees and greens to recycle at the transfer station after the holidays. As a result, hundreds of Medfield families have come to rely on this annual service and make donations to the troop. The funds raised help to keep the cost of scouting events affordable for all youth who wish to participate. The fundraiser has become so successful that the Troop Committee and scouts voted to take a portion of the funds and make donations to local nonprofits a few years back. It is a tradition that Troop 89 is proud to announce that they will be continuing this year by making donations to The Medfield Food Pantry, The Medfield Animal Shelter, and The Trustees of the Reservation. "One of the reasons we like this fundraiser is because it aligns nicely with the scouting ethos of community service," said Jim Hatch, Troop 89 Scoutmaster. "We are so incredibly grateful to the Town of Medfield and its residents for their ongoing support of the tree pick-up service and are proud to be able to continue to make these donations to organizations that are doing great work in our community." Medfield Troop 89 is a Mayflower Scouts BSA Council member chartered to the American Legion. Service. Community engagement and leadership development are integral parts of the Scouts BSA program. If you know a youth between the ages of 11 and 18, who may be interested in joining scouting, please have them contact Scoutmaster Hatch at [email protected].
