STAMFORD, CT —A 76-year-old man was seriously injured after he was assaulted at a Stamford liquor store on March 1, according to the Stamford Police Department. Following an investigation, a 33-year-old man turned himself in to police on March 3. Corey Alexander, of Stamford, was arrested on a warrant that charged him with third-degree robbery, third-degree assault on an elderly person and second-degree reckless endangerment, Capt. Richard Conklin of the SPD said. Alexander was given a $50,000 bond, and was scheduled to appear in court last Friday. His status was not immediately available. Conklin said that around 3:30 p.m. on March 1 at Atlantic Wine and Liquor, located at 211 Atlantic St. in Stamford, Alexander was in line to pay at the register when he became upset that the line wasn't moving quickly enough. Conklin said Alexander exchanged words with a 76-year-old hispanic male who was in front of him, and Alexander pushed the man to the ground. The man was seriously injured after he hit his head on the tile floor, Conklin said, adding that Alexander then took some money the man had on his person and fled the store. The victim was taken to Stamford Hospital with a life-threatening head injury and was diagnosed with a brain bleed, Conklin said. "It looked very serious, perhaps even a fatal type of injury, but the good news is the party was stabilized and it looks like he's going to survive at this point," Conklin said. Officers from the SPD's Major Crimes Squad, led by investigator Luis Serna, identified Alexander after interviewing witnesses and reviewing security video from the area, Conklin said. After an arrest warrant was obtained, officers contacted Alexander's family, who urged Alexander to turn himself in. Alexander surrendered at the SPD headquarters last Thursday afternoon, Conklin said.
