BOSTON — A 26-year-old man was hospitalized after what transit police are calling a "violent and unprovoked" attack on a Red Line train over the weekend.
Transit police say the attack happened around 9 p.m. Friday at the JFK/UMass Station when they found the man "bleeding profusely" from his head.
Police say the man was riding an outbound Red Line train when a man, later identified as David Washington-Halfkenny, 40, of Dorchester was pacing back and forth before striking the man in the face several times with a blunt object.
The 26-year-old unidentified man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and police have not released an update on his condition.
Police say the man had no relation to Washington-Halfkenny, who was arrested and will now face several charges.
No additional information was immediately available.
