Synopsis: Adapted from Madeleine L'Engle's much-loved classic tale, one of literature's most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry, is back stubbornness and all. Joining forces with her baby brother Charles Wallace, friend and neighbor Calvin O'Keefe, and the celestial beings Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which, she must battle the forces of evil in order to rescue her father, save humanity, and discover herself. Traveling through time and space, Meg must save both her father and the world from IT, an evil force that is rapidly casting its shadow over the universe. But what does Meg have that the IT does not? Love. For in the end, love is enough to overcome evil and bring IT's dark world crashing down. We will be casting the following characters:Meg Murry - The character is 14, but we are looking for a youth or adult actor in the 14-24 age range who looks young for her age. Meg is extremely smart but doesn't think of herself that way. She is emotionally expressive and wears her heart on her sleeve. She doesn't fit in at school, and the gossip about her father's disappearance is a great source of shame and anger for her. Charles Wallace Murry - Meg's baby brother. The character is age 5, but we are looking for a child actor in the 8-13 year old age range who is small statured and looks young for his age. Charles has a very high IQ and sometimes speaks like an adult, although he is really very young and innocent. Calvin O'Keefe - The character is 14, but we are looking for a youth or adult actor in the 14-24 age range who looks young for his age. Calvin fits in well at school where he plays basketball and is popular. He has skipped grades and is a junior in high school. His family life is less successful; he is from a family with a lot of children but not a lot of money or time and he often gets ignored. He is sensitive and understanding and brave. Mrs. Whatsit (adult role) - The youngest of the three celestial beings who accompany the children on their adventure. Meg initially comes to know Mrs. Whatsit as the tramp who stole bed-sheets from their neighbors and then sought shelter from a storm in the Murrys' warm kitchen. She later learns that Mrs. Whatsit gave up her existence as a star in order to fight the Dark Thing Mrs. Who (adult role) - The oldest of the three celestial beings who accompany the children on their adventure. Mrs. Which has difficulty materializing and is usually just a shimmering gleam. Her unconventional speech is usually rendered in capitalized words, with the first consonants repeated several times. Mrs. Which (adult role) - The second of the three celestial beings who accompany the children on their adventure. She usually speaks in quotations from famous thinkers and writers because she finds it too difficult to craft her own sentences. When the children first meet Mrs. Who, she is sewing sheets in the haunted house in their neighborhood.Mr. Murry - (adult role) Meg's father and a physicist who works for a top-secret government agency on experiments with travel through space-time in the fifth dimension. In trying to tesser to Mars (i.e., travel through a tesseract, or wrinkle in time), he is captured and imprisoned on the dark planet of Camazotz. When the plot begins, no one on Earth has heard from him for over a year. Ensemble - we will be casting an ensemble of 6 - 10 actors of all ages. These actors will be asked to play multiple roles and are an integral part of our story. Roles include Meg's mother, teacher, principal Jenkins, Chris Henderson, postmistress, happy medium, Aunt Beast, Camazotians and more. Actors must be able to move well.
