ARLINGTON, VA — Transportation Security Administration officers stopped a traveler from bringing a comb onto a flight leaving Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Sunday.
It wasn't a matter of self-grooming they were concerned about. The comb contained a concealed knife and as such was prohibited.
"The passenger had the choice to go put it back in their vehicle, hand it off to a non-traveling companion, put it in their checked bags and relinquish it to TSA,"said Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman with the Transportation Security Administration. "In most instances, when somebody brings a knife, that's what they do. They just give it over to TSA for disposal.
Finding a knife concealed in a comb may seem unusual, but TSA does encounter them from time to time, according to Farbstein.
"I think that most people probably are not aware that people manufacture items of that nature," she said.
