SAN MATEO, CA — A teenager caught speeding along El Camino Real on Friday morning in San Mateo told police his excuse was that he was late for school. According to the San Mateo Police Department, the 17-year-old boy admitted to driving 80 miles per hour. Officers contacted his mother, who arrived to take responsibility for her son and the vehicle. The boy was cited for unsafe speed and driving alone with a provisional driver's license, according to police.
