DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Sunday marked the two-year anniversary of the coronavirus affecting Delaware County.
And on Tuesday, officials plan to hold a Remembrance Vigil for the more than 1,800 Delaware County residents who died from the virus.
The vigil will take place at 1 p.m. on the steps of the Delaware County Courthouse, 201 W. Front St. in Media.
Community members are invited to attend to pay tribute to their lost loved ones.
"In the midst of this deadly pandemic, where so many are grieving the loss of a family member, friend, neighbor, or coworker, it's important that we pause and reflect, and remember each person we have lost," officials said in an announcement of the vigil. "The hope is that the memorial will serve as a collective healing for our community."
Delaware County got its confirmed first case of coronavirus on Marc 6, 2020.
According to state data, Delco has seen 94,514 confirmed cases of the virus and 1,831 virus-related deaths.
"These are our family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and members of our community. During the pandemic, many family members and friends were not able to say goodbye to their loved ones due to public health concerns or travel restrictions, causing even more pain during an already difficult time of grieving," officials said. "Delaware County Council extends our deepest condolences to those who have lost a loved one to the COVID-19 pandemic."
