JOLIET, IL — A 52-year-old Joliet man was arrested Saturday afternoon by Joliet police after officers say Ruben Lopez damaged a man's truck and crashed into another vehicle in the process. The incident at the Supermercado Joliet parking lot happened around noon. Lopez was subsequently arrested on charges of criminal damage to property, assault, resisting a peace officer and disorderly conduct. According to Joliet police, Lopez damaged an unoccupied pickup truck. As the man pulled into the Supermercado parking lot, Lopez pulled up behind the victim and an argument ensued. When the victim finished his grocery shopping, he found his truck's windshield was damaged by multiple pieces of loose asphalt, police said. "Officers determined through video surveillance that Lopez had damaged the victim's vehicle then drove away, striking an unoccupied vehicle in the process," police spokesman Dwayne English stated. When police officers found Lopez nearby, at the AutoZone Auto Parts store, 409 E. Cass St., Lopez ran into the store and exited through a rear emergency door, police indicated. Officer giving chase and captured the Joliet man in the 300 block of East Cass Street. Lopez was also cited for failure to leave information upon striking an unattended vehicle.
