Safety First: City Removes Playground Equipment

CALABASAS, CA — The city of Calabasas removed playground structures from the Tennis & Swim Center and Freedom Park due to safety concerns. After routine state-mandated park inspections, the city's Playground Safety Director recommended the removal of two play structures due to old age. There were no unusual issues with the structures other than age — updating the structures would have required parts that are not available anymore, said Michael Russo, Communications Director for the city. The city began a review of the two sites to decide how to move forward. "Needless to say, public safety is priority number one and we want to make sure everybody's trip to the nearest playground is a safe one," Russo said. Other Calabasas parks still have play structures for children, including Juan Bautista de Anza Park, Highlands Park, Gates Canyon Park, Grape Arbor Park and Creekside Park.
