SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — More than 750 bulletproof vests are earmarked for Ukraine courtesy of the Suffolk County Police Department and the county, according to a news release. Nine pallets containing the vests will be sent to help Ukrainians dealing with the Russian invasion, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison announced on Monday. This is not the first time the Suffolk County Police Department has donated ballistic vests. In 2004, the department donated hundreds of decommissioned vests to line vulnerable Humvees, that were not otherwise armored, in Iraq, making the vehicles safer for soldiers. Iraqi Police were also outfitted with decommissioned SCPD vests.
