Mexico in Alaska, now located on Old Seward Highway, has served burritos, tamales, and other Mexican staples to the Anchorage community for the past 50 years. The restaurant's owner, 81-year-old Maria Elena Ball, opened Mexico in Alaska in a small building in Mountain View on St. Patrick's Day in honor of the Irish soldiers who fought for the Mexican army during the Mexican-American War.
