GLENVIEW, IL — Students from Willowbrook School (Glenview) and Wescott School (Northbrook) took part in Veterans Day activities Wednesday as part of Northbrook/Glenview School District 30's salute to veterans. Students interviewed veterans like Willowbrook parent Mike Beslow, and the schools honored veterans with words, posters and photographs.
Principal Dr. Scott Carlson and Dr. Chris Brown praised them for their service to the country in a press release from the district.
"We appreciate all of the veterans who serve and served our country," the administrators said in a joint statement. "Don't forget to thank a veteran when you see one with a positive verbal message or a thumbs up. Thank you to all of our veterans. You are in our hearts always."
In addition, through her dedicated and longtime work with Honor Flight Chicago, first-grade teacher Sharon Latek made a connection with Chestnut Square at The Glen. This local senior living community has a significant number of veterans living there, according to the release. Classes were invited to generate door signs for the residents. Staff collected and delivered the signs to veterans Wednesday.
During the student interviews, one student asked what children could learn from veterans.
"They can learn about patriotism and to love our country by stepping forward to serve and sacrifice, if that is their call," Beslow replied.
Students in the district made personalized signs for the veterans. (Northbrook/Glenview School District 30)Related:Virtual Veterans Day Ceremony Planned For NorthbrookWhere Vets & Military Can Eat Free In IL On Veterans Day 2020
