Description

This sweet, smart, perfectly-sized (25 lb), spayed, young, female dog is Cinnamon and she is in need of a new home. We adopted her from out-of-state and were told by the foster family that she’d probably do well with cats and in an apartment. Well, it turns out that she does not do well with cats and needs to be in a cat-free home. Neighborhood cats are probably fine with some training, but she gets very excited about them. She also needs a fenced yard, even a small one, to blow off some steam throughout the day. Other than those two things—which aren’t issues for many families—she’s truly a wonderful family dog with a ton of potential! To be as transparent as possible, here are some of the qualities I’ve noticed about Cinnamon, so far: She… -Barely sheds -Rarely barks and whines only briefly and then gives up -Does not chew/destroy furniture -Does occasionally steal slippers while in the shower but never chews on them -Loves to snuggle in your lap or next to you on the couch—perfect lap dog! -Very motivated by clicker training and a quick learner -Eager to please/learn -Rides well in the car when clicked into seatbelt -Enjoys wearing sweaters and being swaddled in blankets like a baby -Very sweet and gentle, especially when mellow -I trust her to not bite or growl even when playing rough—I haven’t been able to get her too riled up or rough during play -Can pick her up and/or put your face right in hers and she submits and does not act aggressively -She has short bursts of energy like a cat and then can nap for a few hours, though I suspect she could go all day if she were given the opportunity. -She’s not a stinky or slobbery dog and fairly meticulous about cleaning herself -She’s house broken and create trained -She sleeps through the night and can be left in a room alone for hours (probably overnight) and she’ll just sleep. -She can be a little bit distracted around neighborhood dog-friends but she knows how to sit, lay down, come when called or whistled to, and is working on heeling, and staying down when excited. -She is a super smart and motivated dog! Highly trainable! She’d make a fantastic duck hunting, guard, farm, search and rescue, herding, mushroom hunting, etc. dog! -She’ll be loyal to you until the end if you give her steak once in a while. -I think she’d do well as the only dog or in a family with other dogs, but she may need some time to work on being calm around them—it’s just because she’s such a lover! The vet said he thought Cinnamon is part Basenji (I’m no expert and I know Basenjis are rare but I’m convinced she actually is part Basenji due to her characteristics and history. You could check with Embark or similar dog DNA tests.) and part Black Mouth Cur (the type of dog Old Yeller was). Both breeds are good family dogs and I believe the BMC breed compliments Basenji well. This lovely family dog is all up to date on vaccines and has been checked out by a vet in the past few weeks. She is microchipped (will transfer to new owner) and will come with complete medical records and her favorite blue plaid sweater (pictured). We are asking for a small rehoming fee of $500. If it sounds like Cinnamon might be the perfect addition to your family, please text or email me.
