LAKE FOREST, CA — Lake Forest recently became one of the first cities in Orange County to use license-plate reading cameras mounted on poles near traffic intersections. As cars go by, the cameras scan the license plates of vehicles passing by and automatically alert authorities to report any vehicles that are stolen or wanted in connection with crimes. Lake Foresters may have many questions about this surveillance technology, so the city is inviting its residents and businesses to a Monday night town hall to discuss the new technology law enforcement is starting to use. Lake Forest Chief of Police Services Lt. Chad Taylor and a representative from Flock Safety, the Atlanta-based company behind the cameras, will make presentations and answer questions about the helicopters, drones, and license-plate readers used by the Sheriff's Department.
