Learn American Sign Language for Spiritual Songs and Prayers Come join Terri Curtin to study sign language basics while learning the Peace Song and the Prayer of Protection. She will teach you how to sign both, step by step. She will also teach you how to sign a prayer affirmation – one simple sentence each week from the Daily Word. Sign language is an art form as well as a communication system. It helps people connect directly with their emotions and channel Divine Spirit from within. And it is so much fun to sign together at the end of service. About the Instructor: Terri Curtin has been deaf since birth. She wears a hearing aid in her right ear to help her hear low frequencies. She is completely deaf in her left ear. She cannot hear high pitch frequencies. She has trouble understanding women and children’s speech because of high frequencies. She understands men better because they tend to have a deeper, low tone when they speak. She can read lips and speak well because she took eight years of speech therapy. Peter Weiler, who also attends Unity of Walnut Creek, was her Teacher of the Deaf at Concord High School. She uses sign language every day to communicate. Terri began attending Unity of Walnut Creek in 2011. She felt so at home. She loved the teaching of Spirituality. She believes we are all One with the Divine Spirit of our Creator. She believes in peace for all and treating everyone with equality.
