KANE COUNTY, IL — A 28-year-old Geneva Township man is accused of choking a person who he was in a "domestic relationship" with in front of a young child, prosecutors said. Brandon Z. Baaske, of Berquist Drive in Geneva Township, is charged with aggravated domestic battery - strangulation, criminal damage to property, domestic battery and disorderly conduct in connection with the March 30 assault. Authorities say Baaske began shouting at the victim during the early morning hours of March 30, pushed the victim into a wall, which caused the victim's head to strike a picture frame, according to the news release. Baaske then allegedly grabbed the victim by the neck, causing the victim to struggle to breath. The victim's young child then came into the room, Baaske went outside and the victim locked the door. Baaske then kicked in the door, causing the door frame to break, according to the news release. The victim and the child were able to hide in the bathroom until Kane County Sheriff's deputies arrive, according to police. Baaske was arrested and has since been released from jail on a $25,000 bail and a promise to return to court, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. As conditions of bond, Baaske cannot have contact with the victim, must stay away from the victim's home and must surrender all firearms to the police. Baaske is next expected in court on March 8.
