BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — The reports below are excerpts from Suffolk police's 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th precincts that comprise Brookhaven Town. Criminal charges do not indicate a conviction. A Brooklyn man was cuffed on Tuesday after cops say he swiped cologne from Ulta Beauty in Shirley and crashed into three cars while fleeing a police officer before being stopped in Medford. Quadia Atkinson, 21, placed cologne in a bag at Ulta and tried to leave the store, and then fled a traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 64, police said. He was later apprehended and was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, three counts of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting, and reckless driving, according to police. Police on Tuesday initially said there were two people involved in the incident, but that could not be confirmed as of deadline. Court records were not available for Atkison. Also in the blotter: A Brooklyn man stole $7,800 worth of goods from an automobile shop back in September 2020, police said. Luis Liriano, 23, acted along with others, stole the property, which included a 2015 work van from a location on Main Street in Holbrook, and was later arrested at the 6th Precinct in Selden, according to police. It is not clear if other property was stolen in addition to the van. Liriano was charged with third-degree burglary and grand larceny, police said. Liriano was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on March 15, according to online court records.A Mastic man was charged with welfare fraud on Thursday after police say he lied about his income between 2014 and 2019 to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, police said. Steven Damiantakis, 39, was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud, according to police.A Mastic woman was caught with a gun in her room during a search warrant of her home on Thursday, police said. Lashannda Robinson, 39, was arrested at the 4th Precinct in Hauppauge, and was charged with charged with criminal possession of a firearm, according to police. A glass door was broken and the cash register was found stolen from Old Harbor Wines and Liquors on Grundy Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 28.There were two home burglaries reported in North Bellport within a period of a day last week. In the first burglary, a vacant Taylor Avenue home was found broken into just before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. In the second buglary, a Yarrow Drive resident reported finding a door frame damaged and a safe containing jewelry, as well as a laptop, television set, and passport stolen at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday. A Yaphank resident reported applying for a job in an online forum and then receiving a bogus check on Thursday. Police have classified the incident a third-degree grand larceny.
