MEDFORD, NY — A Medford man left a dog tethered outside for about an hour on Thursday, resulting in a charge under Suffolk County code, police said. Khan Malik, 36, kept a dog thetered to a railing in the front yard of his Long Island Avenue home from about 10 to 11 a.m., said police, adding that he was charged with restraining a pet between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. No further details were released about the arrest. The charge, an unclassified misdemeanor, is punishable by a fine up to $250 and/or imprisonment for up to five days for a first offense, a fine of $500 and/or imprisonment up to 15 days for a second offense, and a fine of $1,000 and/or imprisonment up to 30 days for all subsequent offenses, according to the code.
