WHEATON, IL — A 16-year-old Wheaton Warrenville South High School student has died after a one-car crash Friday afternoon in Wheaton, police said. The teen was the only occupant of a vehicle that hit a traffic signal pole near Butterfield and Orchard roads just before 5 p.m. Friday. School officials identified the 16-year-old as junior Holden Wight, WGN reported. Police said the circumstances around the crash are under investigation, and no other information was immediately released. The roadway was shut down for around five hours Friday while the MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team conducted an investigation at the scene. "We express our condolences to the family, friends and school community affected by this loss," the city of Wheaton said in a release on Saturday. "The Wheaton Police Department has been in communication with our partners at Community Unit School District 200 so that they can provide support resources for the District 200 community." School officials said Wheaton Warrenville South's Student Services Team was at the campus Saturday to offer support to students. "Losing a member of our school community is incredibly tragic, sad and very difficult to comprehend," the school said in a message to parents.
