FRANKFORT, IL — The Hickory Creek varsity boys baseball team and the girls varsity softball team both won their respective IESA Regional Championship games on Sept. 26. According to the district, the boys defeated James Hart School 7-5, and the girls defeated Mokena Junior High 16-0.
"Our season, even though shorter than usual has been a success. The group comprised of all eighth graders has shown a lot of heart and is a great group of athletes. The season has been filled with many close games including a thrilling 10-inning win vs Bishop Mac and walk-off win vs B.U.G.C.", said Matt Zemke, Hickory Creek Varsity Boys Baseball Coach.
The varsity baseball team roster consists of Dylan Weathers, Noah Ciolkosz, Jack Bauer, Matthew Muehlnickel, Caden Klene, Jake Baud, Sawyer Polad, Trey Zvonar, Charlie Cosich, Griffin Reidy, Aaron Scott, Zion Gist, Jaden Henry, Will Buchanan and Zo Trevino.
The varsity team ended their season with a record of 6-1 and the junior varsity team ended their season with a record of 5-0, according to the district.
Mitch Stein, girls softball coach, said of the season, "They really played well and it was nice to have something to celebrate this year."
The girls varsity team consists of Mackenzie Bacha, Olivia Baran, Anna Bath, Isabella Borelli, Christa Contreras, Madi Gaines, Maddie Henry, Cassidy Jagielski, Samantha Jarosik, Leah Signore, Ella Slager, Jessi Szafoni and Maddie Zdanek.
The team ended their season with a record of 8-3 and the junior varsity team ended their season with a record of 2-2, the district said.
