Here are the top 3 stories in Savannah today: Savannah Fire Department leaders say their call volume has increased by the thousands since expanding their critical call response. Savannah Fire responded to 11,211 calls in 2021, the first full year of the expansion, and Fire Chief Derik Minard says the department is continuing to collect data to help the program grow. Minard added that better community education on what constitutes an emergency could also help alleviate the stress being placed on first responder resources. (WTOC)A Savannah nonprofit organization is struggling amidst staffing and volunteer shortages. The Living Vine provides a safe environment for women in crisis pregnancies, but Executive Director Karen Beasley says that if they are unable to staff the facility it may soon be forced to close. People of all skillsets can help keep the organization running by volunteering to do anything from painting and lawn care to teaching finance classes. (WTOC)The 100 Black Men of Savannah partnered with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on Saturday. President Harold Oglesby said the group wanted to do their part to address the blood needs of the community, where there are "high level[s] of accidents and traumas that require bloodwork."
