Umbrella Cockatoo needs a home

Description

Hello, My elderly friend in the Orrington area has recently become too ill to care for her beloved Umbrella Cockatoo. This bird does not belong to me, and I've only met her once, but I'll do my best to describe her personality and needs. If I think you're a good fit, I'll connect you with her owner for more nuanced information. Sika is a female cockatoo around 15 years old. She's very sweet, fully flighted, and partially plucked. She has lived with other birds before, as well as dogs and I believe children. She'll come with her cage. This is a species that is not suited for first time parrot owners or apartments. They are very loud, and can become destructive and aggressive when not given a quality diet and proper stimulation. Cockatoos are very dusty birds, so this is not a species that tends to do well with asthma sufferers or others with chronic respiratory conditions. She currently spends much of her day out of the cage, and this should continue; this species does very poorly with confinement. They need a lot of socialization and foraging opportunities, a high quality pellet diet, as well as fresh vegeties and fruits. They bond strongly to their owners. Please respond by email with your housing situation, vet reference, and parrot experience. Thanks very much!
