From the Richard Free Press: By Jon DePaolis FRANKFORT, Ill. — Village of Frankfort Trustee John C. Clavio is throwing his hat into the ring to be the next mayor of the southwest suburban community. Clavio, who has served as a Village trustee since 2017, announced his intention to run for mayor in a press release on Monday, Sept. 21. "Being mayor of Frankfort is not just a role," Clavio stated in the press release. "It is so much more than presiding over meetings and acting in charge of our Village. It is a commitment. For me, commitment to our community does not and cannot stop and restart. For me, it has been a commitment that began 19 years ago when we moved to Frankfort; a commitment of also beginning my business in Frankfort 19 years ago, and proudly still operating; a commitment of actively and continuously serving in volunteer roles with various community organizations and events over the past 19 years. "Being mayor also requires determination to stand up in controversial situations. Standing up for what is right, despite the resistance. Leading during bad times when we are struggling. Personally, professionally and during my volunteer service, I have been presented with challenges and forced to make hard decisions. Each encounter has molded me into the strong person I am today. More focused and more driven. "Being mayor also requires empathy. We have all heard, 'People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.' My commitment to Frankfort illustrates just how much I care." Clavio's mayoral bid comes on the heels of longtime Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland announcing earlier this month that he intends to step away from the role at the conclusion of his fourth term in spring 2021. Prior to his time as mayor, Holland served as a Village trustee for six years. "It is time for my wife, Stacy, and I to move to another phase of our lives," Holland stated in the press release announcing his decision to retire from Frankfort politics. "We are looking forward to spending more time with our grandson, Nikolai, and other family members, and we look forward to additional time for travel."
