FRANKFORT, IL — President Trump's projected loss in Illinois on Tuesday contrasted with his performance in 2016, as his share of the vote rose from 37 percent against Hilary Clinton four years ago to 42.3 percent against former Vice President Joe Biden in 2020. So how did Trump's support in Will County and the Frankfort area compare with his vote totals in 2016? Shortly after polls closed on Tuesday, the announcement was made that Biden had won Illinois, which has leaned left since electing Bill Clinton in 1992. Last election, Hillary Clinton won Illinois with 55.8 percent of the vote total compared to Trump's 37 percent. According to the Will County Clerk's Office, Biden had 174,226 votes countywide, while Trump had 149,695. A total of 330,593 votes have been counted so far in Will County in 2020, already more than the 304,167 votes in 2016. In 2016, Trump earned 132,720 votes compared to 149,695 votes in 2020. In the Frankfort area, all but two area precincts had a higher vote total for Trump. The precinct results for 2020 mirrored the 2016 results.
