You'll see a lot of dog, puppy and pet ads on CL. That's because the thieves out there know that people are easy targets when pets are involved. There are many cute and cuddly puppies and other animals for sale. The problem is that most of these posts are scams, people wanting to steal your money. Don't be fooled. 1. If the picture of the dog or pet is too good to be true, it's very likely a scam. 2. If the seller is out of state, don't buy it and don't make a deposit unless the seller has a legitimate website, telephone numbers you can call and references to others who have purchased pets from them. If they are reputable they will provide you with references. 3. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER make a deposit on line unless you have vetted the seller, spoken with them, obtained positive references, etc. Otherwise NEVER make an on-line deposit because your money will be history. 4. DON'T BUY any pet unless you can see it, touch it, spend time with it in the sellers home or business. Exception is spelled out in 2 and 3 above. 5. Buyer beware, DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING SELLERS TELL YOU unless you can find a way to prove it.....documentation of records, etc. Talk is cheap and the scammers will tell you ANYTHING to get ahold of your money. 6. Don't believe that a dog has had shots and been to a vet unless you can get proof.......ALWAYS GET VET RECORDS AND TALK TO THE VET. If there are no vet records then the 'seller' either doesn't have the dog or has not taken care of the dog or pet. DO NOT BUY THE DOG or pet without seeing vet records and talking with the vet. There are hundreds of puppy/dog for sale posts. NEARLY ALL of them will be SCAMS. Don't get caught up in the hype of wanting to buy a dog and lose your mind and money.
