I bought into Skarsgard Farm's local food home delivery service about 2 years ago. They claim they support local farms and are do nothing but support the local food system. So far, I have barely seen any local produce that they sell. They list pineapple as local - WTF - what farm grows pineapple?!? Seriously, all the produce I got from Skarsgard is the same exact brands that I get from Smiths (the ghetto one near UNM). Just because it is certified organic does not mean it is better for you than produce bought from a small farm. Big Ag owns all of the organic crap you get from Skarsgard. They are NOT supporting local farms. In fact, I heard from one farm that Skarsgard screwed them over and did not pay the farmer after selling them a ton of food. That is why you do not see local farms selling to Skarsgard anymore. They chose to actively hurt local farms! Thankfully I am no longer a member of Skarsgard Farms. I do not want to support a business that claims to help local farms but turns around and hurts them. If you are looking for local food - support a true CSA or shop the farmers market. Support Local. Keep your money in New Mexico - not in Mexican and Californian big ag farms.
