Description

From Kansas City Water: September 21, 2020 KC Water's KC Rocky Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant, at 500 NE 132nd Street earned its first Platinum Peak Performance Award for five years of 100% compliance. Every day, toilets, sinks, and drains across Kansas City take millions of gallons of wastewater away from homes and businesses. That wastewater goes to one of six treatment plants where KC Water treats it and returns it to creeks and rivers in better condition than the water we get from the Missouri River. Recently, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) honored KC Water with two Peak Performance Awards. These awards recognize KC Water's efforts to protect regional health and water quality through compliance with established National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) treated water discharge permits for 2019. The two plants are: KC Rocky Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant – First-time Platinum Peak Performance KC Fishing River Wastewater Treatment Facility – Platinum 6 As a first-time Platinum Peak Performance honoree, the KC Rocky Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant will be recognized with a presentation of its award during NACWA's Virtual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Platinum Awards are presented to the facilities with meeting very stringent permit compliance standards over a consecutive 5-year period. This is the highest award attainable. In 2019, four wastewater treatment plants were recognized by NACWA for outstanding compliance records. KC Water's Wastewater Treatment Division processed approximately 46 billion gallons of wastewater in 2019. "I'm proud of this achievement and of our employees. To receive the highest award for no permit violations for multiple years in a row, demonstrates our commitment to protect public health and the environment by providing safe and effective wastewater treatment," said KC Water Director Terry Leeds.
