Keyboard/Songwriter seeks Musicians/Writers in jazz/funk/soul/rock
Meets
Cincinnati OH
Description
Keyboard player with years of experience playing piano and Rhodes with lesser experience in organ and synths. Interested in playing out, writing and recording original music and an eclectic mix of covers. Additionally, I am interested in collaborating on music for musical theater, soundtracks and sync licensing. In my mid-30's. Have reliable transportation. Will join the right existing group if there are opportunities to write. Looking to rehearse once a week every week and play once a week maximum. Prefer to rehearse close to Cincinnati city limits. I put in the work practicing and expect the same. I like to work with people who are punctual and keep appointments. I don't tolerate hard-drug use. ### soundcloud.com/fitzsnaggle My background is sample heavy beats. I moved to jazz piano when that became too limiting; I took a couple years of lessons and a have had many mentors. I played with a weekly jam session of pros for two years. I spent about 10 years without doing anything digital and it made me a stronger player and composer. The three bands I have been part of never got anywhere because of drug use. Years of experience in choirs: Pop, Anglican, Gospel, University, Musical Theater. I sing baritone/bass with limited solo experience. I compose in Ableton Live and know how to program. I read charts and can read music (slowly). I've recently taken up digital horns, woodwind, strings using a breath controller and motion controller for automation. I write lyrics as well. Areas I need to work on: My ear is decent for familiar progressions and melodies, but needs work for key change heavy songs. My cover/fake book repertoire is limited, though I can read. My comping skills also need work. I am learning basics of mixing/mastering to improve the quality of my back catalog. ### I'm looking for vocals, drums and bass at a minimum; I am open to any other players including other keyboard players, guitarists, brass, strings, woodwinds, percussion. I prefer to work with others that at a minimum know their chords, can improvise and look up from their instruments. I'd like to be part of a dynamic and collaborative group that is composed of strong writers, has multipart harmonies and melodic bass lines. I like concept albums and songs with a strong narrative. I like variation in song structure/dynamics even when they are subtle. Ultimately, the most important qualities I care about in collaborators are kindness and dedication. Please reply with a link/ links (Dropbox, Google Drive, Soundcloud, Youtube, Spotify, etc...) to a recording of any fidelity that showcases your skills/style. After hearing a sample, I would like to talk a bit on the phone for 15 minutes or so before meeting up to play together. If we previously had contact a couple months ago and never got connected, feel free to reach out again. ### My favorite musicians are genre hoppers: Neo-Soul: D'Angelo, Thundercat, The Internet Hip Hop: J Dilla, Madlib, MF Doom Movie Scores: Ennio Morricone, Yoko Kanno, Danny Elfman Progressive Rock: Queen, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel Funk/ Soul: Funkadelic, Earth Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye Other Rock: REM, The Police, Elliot Smith Broadway/Opera: Stephen Sondheim, Trey Parker, Puccini
