I would have to disagree with all of you. Open mics, first off, generally have people playing covers and not trying to play a full album of originals. That's a thing separate from an open mic called a gig, so that was kind of a dumb thing to say. And those saying open mics only have people who are not that good and are gamers, not really sure of the correlation, but that was also a dumb thing to say. It sounds like the lot of you all think very highly of yourselves and need your egos stroked. I have met many a talented musicians, singers, and song writers at open mics. I even became involved in a band because of open mics. Obviously your superiority complexes make you believe musicians at open mics are not good or talented and I am sure you are all the best to ever do it. And generally, covers are played to get musicians together so they can play something they will all know off the cuff. Go to a coffee house open mic if you want to listen to original poetry and acoustic songs. And it isn't just a "Smallbany" thing, I have seen the same thing at open mics on the other side of the country. Really, please remove your heads from your back ends and get over yourselves. This place is supposed to be about musicians coming together, not putting others down. Maybe some of those open mic-ers aren't the most talented, but at least they get to do something they enjoy and is a celebration of music...and not a celebration of themselves.
