Why, oh why, do you people keep getting pets when your life is so uncertain? If you don't have a job but are looking for one don't get a new pet because you might not have time for it when you do find a job. If you have another dog/cat/guinea pig at home make sure that your current pet will get along with a new animal before thrusting one upon it, expecting them to all play happily, and when they don't dumping either the new pet or the old one. If your living conditions are uncertain don't get a new pet. If your rental agreement states that you cannot have pets...don't get a pet! Chances are your landlord won't change his/her mind! If you have children please get them tested for allergies before getting a new pet. It isn't fair to the pet or the child to find out after the fact. If you are pregnant, for the love of Pete don't get a new pet! Babies are a lot of work and so are animals. You most likely won't have time for both. All of this having been said, I do understand that life happens and sometimes people are forced to get rid of their pets. But a little forethought goes a long way in making sure that when you do get an animal it is for life, which is how it should be.
