Doors at 6pm, showtime 7pm // Mark Jossart, Brad Dickmann and Bob Rubach just wanted to play music. That shared desire brought each of the three musicians — from Racine, Burlington and northern Illinois, respectively — to Open Mic night at Burlington’s The Coffee House at Chestnut & Pine. And when they ended up playing together on stage, “something just clicked,” according to Dickmann, who plays bass and guitar. That was [in 2013], and since then the trio has been performing together as Mad Bark — a band with more than 200 songs in its repertoire, ranging from ones by the Rolling Stones to Lady Gaga ... The three musicians — who all also play with other bands and/or on their own — may only perform as Mad Bark once or twice a month. But, when they do, there seems to be a natural musical chemistry between them. “There is a spontaneity that I think is really good for us as musicians, and the feedback we get from the audience is that they like it, too,” said Jossart, a retired site plant manager with SC Johnson who has been performing with rock and country bands in southeastern Wisconsin for more than 30 years. Also known as “juke box Mark,” Jossart plays acoustic guitar, keyboards and “a little flute.” He and Dickmann also provide the vocals for Mad Bark, while Rubach, who plays drums and Cajon (box drum) notes with a smile, “They don’t let me sing.” The band has added other musicians throughout the years. Mad Bark is also Jill Benson (vocals, keyboard, flute), Mark Russert (keyboard, accordion, harmonica), Reid Olson (guitar, vocals) and Cedric Patterson (sax) // Fronted by Eric Erickson, The Hometown Boys are a group of eclectic musicians playing Erickson’s original Americana music. Like many other local bands, the Hometown Boys are firmly rooted in the community of Burlington, WI and many met through local cafe and venue The Coffee House at Chestnut & Pine. If you’re looking for a night out at a heavenly venue with rich, warm songs performed with a great blend of acoustic and electric instruments, this is it! Join Erickson along with his bandmates Jeff Peterson, banjo picker extraordinaire (DJ on 89.1 WBSD), Lead guitarist James “Little Jimmy Fingers” Lampe, and that one-of-a-kind drummer Bobby Rubach (Mad Bark, Chunky Monkey and various others). $10 adv/ $12 at the door (advance sales until 3pm day of show, then available at the door).
