Matthews, Philadelphia Poet Laureate and Co-Director of the Creative Writing Program at Bryn Mawr Co-promoted with Asian Arts Initiative and Blue Stoop Exploring “passion, violence, history, identity—all with a tremendous humanity” (Slate), Ocean Vuong’s poetry collection Night Sky with Exit Wounds won the 2016 Whiting Award. Born in Saigon, Vietnam and raised in Connecticut, Vuong is also the author of the New York Times bestselling novel On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, the story of a family seeking happiness in their disparate experiences. He is the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize, and the T.S. Eliot Prize, among other honors, and his work has been published in periodicals and journals such as Guernica, The New Yorker, Poetry, and The New Republic. Vuong currently teaches at New York University. A testament to love’s triumph over brutality, Time Is a Mother is a poetry collection that aspires to grace and restoration amidst grief and uncertainty.
