Freight Train Derails In MD; Amtrak Modifies Sunday Service

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A freight train derailed in Maryland on Saturday. The derailment occurred south of Aberdeen, blocking the tracks there, according to Amtrak. All service between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., was suspended for a time Saturday morning Amtrak reported. There will be modified service on Sunday. A Norfolk Southern freight train derailed south of Aberdeen in Harford County, about 20 miles north of Baltimore. Norfolk Southern said 20 loaded coal cars derailed, in a statement provided to WBAL. "Thankfully, no one was hurt and the material does not pose a danger to responders or the community," the statement said. As crews repair the track and work to restore service, Amtrak is modifying its schedule between New York and Washington, D.C.
