EVERGREEN PARK, IL — A Chicago man led police on a foot chase through the Walmart parking lot after stealing merchandise from the store, prosecutors said. Marcel Porter, 24, appeared Tuesday before Cook County Judge Terry Gallagher on charges of retail theft, criminal damage to property, resisting and disorderly conduct.
Around 6 p.m. Jan. 13, Evergreen Park police went to Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St., for a report of a retail theft. Loss prevention officers told police they saw a man, later identified as Porter, removing a Bluetooth speaker and dash cam off the shelves. Porter allegedly ran out of the store and fled to Sam's Club. Police surrounded Sam's Club and waited for Porter to come out, the prosecutor said.
Eventually Porter walked out of the store and was arrested, the prosecutor said. Porter allegedly admitted to officers that "it was not the best decision" he ever made.
Bail was set at $10,000. Porter is due back in court Jan. 31 in Bridgeview.
