Yes they did use a belief in God as a tool. Otherwise they would never have gotten any support. And the people who wanted to make another monarchy. Would have won. But remember. If you ask any real historian. They'll tell you. The Founding Fathers had a lot of land grabbing, philandering, flaming queer and bisexual, drunkards. Franklin read everyone's mail. And all but blackmailed peoplel. From all walks of life. In several countries. To gain support. Most of them were very disliked by common folks. Washington slept with half the women in the countryside. And when he rode through town on his horse. If a commoner like you or I tried to get close. He would kick you out of the way. You speak great things about the country. These men created. Yet you run down people like them that want to do more. So ask yourself. Are these kinds of people great leaders if given the chance. Or not? Remember they did most of this in their own in small groups. Over the top of what the people wanted. And had to wait for a big common enemy. To get the people behind them. Then after winning. They were thought of as great leaders.
