Description

Hello, We are moving to Ohio and my daughter no longer wants her ball python, “Kira”. She is a great snake, we have had her since she was a hatchling. She has never bitten anyone and is super chill. We feed her out of her cage only with warmed thawed previously frozen rats. She typically eats every 2 weeks but with winter she hasn’t been wanting her food for a couple months. This is normal for snakes. Everything is included with her. I believe she is in a 55 gallon tank now. Rule of thumb is you want a tank as long as the snake or bigger. She may outgrow this tank soon but for now it’s fine. She sleeps all day and is active at night. She has escaped by pushing the lid open so a weighted object or new locking lid maybe needed. She is around 4 feet long. We use coconut substrate for her cage and it needs to be watered everyday to keep the moisture. She comes with a humidifier as well. I don’t have her temperature gage anymore. She has a warming plate she loves. Also she comes with a night and day lamp. Upkeep costs for reference are her rats run around $6-$8/frozen rat. She will not and should not eat live rats. Eating live can cause her to think you are prey and more likely end up teaching her to bite you accidentally. She should not be fed in cage for the same reason. She has never lunged or bitten us because we are consistent in feeding her frozen outside her cage in the same box every time. She is super curious and loves to be outside her cage checking you out or the floor. She is very friendly. She is head shy like most snakes so you can’t pet her there but my daughter still manages to kiss her head and Kira is fine with it. Ball pythons live around 20-30 years. We knew that going in but my daughter became uninterested. Kira would be great with an experienced snake owner who isn’t shy with feeding snakes. She has never had any health problems. You will need to make sure her eye caps come off every shed. Another expense is the light bulbs go out often if handled frequently. They cost $5 or so. Having the fuel light fixture has helped cut this price down drastically since you don’t touch it but just flip the switch. If she escapes she is usually in a closet or under a mattress. Even behind a drawer in a dresser. She never actually leaves the room. And no she won’t strangle a child in their sleep lol. The biggest reason I think my daughter doesn’t want Kira anymore is that reptiles don’t typically show affection like dogs and cats so knowing that before getting one is important. If you have questions let me know. There will be a small rehoming fee of $150 which basically helps us know she isn’t going to a Breeder and being stuck in a dark tray for the rest of her life.
