EVANSTON, IL — Someone fatally shot an Evanston Township High School senior over the weekend in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood, authorities said. Arturo Munoz, 17, of Evanston, was standing in an alley shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday in the 6400 block of North Hamilton Avenue when someone opened fire, striking him at least once in the back, according to the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. The witnesses who called 911 heard Munoz shouting out for help from the alley and carried him to the sidewalk, according to police spokesperson Kellie Bartoli. Munoz was rushed to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 3:30 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office, which was due to perform an autopsy Tuesday. "We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Arturo's family and friends, our students, and staff," it said. Bartoli said there was no one in custody in connection with Munoz's killing, and the investigation into the incident remains open. Munoz was the second 17-year-old boy to be shot in the West Rogers Park neighborhood in less than two months. On July 31, activist Caleb Reed, of Chicago, was fatally shot in the head. Earlier this month, prosecutors charged his friend with his murder. RELATED: Prosecutors Say Teen Activist Accidentally Shot, Killed By Friend In Rogers Park
