Description
ELMHURST, IL — Mariano's grocery store is planning a gas station near the York Street interchange with Interstate 290 in Elmhurst. Its plan is undergoing the city's approval process.
The station is proposed at the northeast corner of York Street and Crestview Avenue, which is now a gravel lot. It would be across from the entrance and exit to the freeway.
Most of Mariano's gas stations are on the same site as its grocery stores.
"This is one of their first where they would have it somewhat off site, even though it would be in proximity," the city's business development coordinator, Erin Jason, told the City Council on Monday.
The station is planned for 619 N. York St., while the store is at 678 N. York St.
Under the plan, customers will not enter the fuel sales kiosk, but complete transactions through credit card readers at gas pumps or through a transaction window, according to documents from the developer on the city's website. The company is planning limited sales of convenience items from within the kiosk.
Mariano's is a brand of Roundy's Supermarkets, a subsidiary of the Kroger Co.
