ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving porch piracy, theft, a woman who tripped on the street, harassment, a burglary and drugs. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Porch pirates Two men stole five packages off of a front porch shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Indiana Street. Officers searched the area for the men, but could not find them. The first man was described as black, 18 to 25 years old, having a thin build and medium length dreadlocks, and wearing a gray jacket, black sweat pants and black shoes. The other man was described as Hispanic, 18 to 25 years old, having an athletic build and short black hair, and wearing a black T-shirt, gray pants and black shoes. Someone stole two packages off of a front porch between noon and 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Crestview Avenue. Theft A man walked past registers and stole shoes about 11 a.m. Thursday at Shoe Carnival, 195 S. Route 83. The man left in a white Nissan. He was described as black, 35 to 45 years old, 6 feet tall, having a medium build and short black hair, and wearing a black face mask, a white and blue jacket, dark pants and a black backpack. Two rental cars from Hertz, 856 N. York Road, were never returned and have been in the possession of suspects since March 30. An officer contacted one of the suspects, who admitted to having the car and promised to coordinate its return. The officer was unable to contact the other suspect. An investigation is pending. A person forced entry into a work van and stole tools between Nov. 22 and Dec. 8 at Rotech, 747 N. Church Road. Woman trips A woman tripped on a small depression in the street's pavement while walking her dog about 9 p.m. Friday near Fair and South, suffering minor injuries. Public works was notified about the matter. Harassment A person in the 1000 block of South Euclid Avenue informed police Saturday that a previous customer had been using unfamiliar phone numbers to constantly call him. The victim has instructed the suspect to stop calling. Burglary Someone pried open a service door and gained entry to an attached garage on Thursday or Friday in the 700 block of Van Auken Street. Nothing appeared to be missing from the garage. Damage A resident in the 100 block of West Harrison Street told police Saturday that her Christmas lights had been cut in two instances. Drugs Darrell D. Watson, 44, of Chicago, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Lake and Interstate 290 on charges of possession of a controlled substance, DUI (drugs), driving with a revoked license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, Watson admitted to ingesting heroin. Public drinking Joseph Cascella, 25, of Elmhurst, was cited about 2 p.m. Thursday at Power Mart gas station, 572 W. Lake St., on a charge of possession of open alcohol in public. He was released on bond. According to a police report, Cascella was served with a no-trespass notice at Power Mart. Disorderly conduct Vanessa Y. McIlvain, 26, of Carpentersville, was cited about 2 a.m. Dec. 13 in the 300 block of West Butterfield on a charge of disorderly conduct. She was released on bond. Driving violations After a traffic crash at Route 83 and Lake, a juvenile was arrested on charges of DUI (drugs), unlawful possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released on bond to his parent. Police found two vape devices and a vape cartridge containing marijuana in the juvenile's car. Ladarius P. Ferguson, 28, of Chicago, was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Monday at York and Third on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, no license plates and tinted windows. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
