Get your hands dirty and help Splendid Earth Farm prepare beds for spring! About this event Join Future Harvest, Maryland Coastal Bays, and Splendid Earth Farm for an interactive field day designed to introduce beginning farmers and gardeners to the process of preparing your dormant winter fields for spring planting. Splendid Earth Farm owner Jeanne Vander Clute is a recent BFTP graduate and will also discuss start-up considerations with her fellow BFTP community, along with using environmentally friendly best practices. This counts as a BFTP hands-on day. There are 15 tickets available for the 2022 class of the BFTP and 10 tickets for the Maryland Coastal Bays network. About the farm Splendid Earth Farm is a woman owned and operated farm located in town of Berlin, Maryland. During this field day, you will get to visit the 1/4 acre farm where Farmer Jeanne Vander Clute grows vegetables, herbs, and flowers..right in the heart of downtown Berlin, MD! Farmer Jeanne has 5 years of farming experience and is a recent BFTP graduate. She is passionate about growing food and using sustainable farming methods, and loves sharing the fruits of her labor with her local community. Details During this field day Farmer Jeanne will introduce you to seasonal spring farm tasks including: Removing winter crops/tarpsAdding compostBroadforking Raking and plantingSpreading wood chipsGet your hands dirty and help Splendid Earth Farm prepare beds for spring! And be part of a conversation about sustainable farming methods and food systems. This event will culminate with a potluck meal, ensuring there is time for informal Q&A and networking.
