Description

Yes, you can have chickens in urban spaces! Learn about how to get started with city chickens, what care they need, and lots more. Did you know you can raise chickens in cities? You can! When you raise urban chickens, you can increase the health of your garden and produce even more of your own food. In this workshop, we'll walk you through the steps to setting up your flock, review different coop designs, and provide an overview of chicken husbandry so you can keep your birds healthy. You also get to meet our expert instructors' very own backyard chickens! Instructors Jamie Chan and Blas Hererra tend a small homestead in San Francisco with their two daughters, complete with honey bees, chickens, greenhouse, mini orchard, and vegetables. Blas has a degree in environmental studies and a certificate in sustainable design from the Urban Permaculture Institute of San Francisco and Jamie is a certified Master Gardener. COVID-19 information: GFE Mask Guidelines: Masks are optional for vaccinated visitors (workshop participants, volunteers, students etc.) and required for unvaccinated individuals. As a reminder, our staff is fully vaccinated and boosted. Thank you for continuing to keep the garden a safe and open space for everyone!Please bring your own gardening gloves for possible hands-on activities. You will be required to sign a liability waiver upon arrival.
