ELGIN, IL — Several new restrictions will be in effect throughout Elgin starting Wednesday. Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced Monday that state officials will impose Tier 2 mitigations on Region 8 (Kane and DuPage counties), where the coronavirus-test positivity rate surged past 14 percent on Saturday. 6,000-Plus Coronavirus Cases In Kane County Over Past 2 Weeks Illinois officials imposed Tier 1 restrictions Oct. 23 in both regions, including an indoor dining ban on restaurants and bars, as well as a limit on social gatherings. With the region's positivity rate still well above 8 percent after two weeks of Tier 1 restrictions, more mitigation efforts are on the way. FoxFire To Take Indoor Dining Fight To Illinois Supreme Court Tier 2 restrictions will limit party sizes for outdoor dining to six people instead of 10, while gatherings and groups participating in organized recreational activities will be limited to 10 people instead of 25. The new limits do not apply to students learning in person or fitness centers, according to the IDPH. Pritzker has said his administration will give priority consideration to businesses in regions facing new restrictions through the state's $220 million Business Interruption Grants program.
