KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County will offer coronavirus testing next week at locations in Elgin and Carpentersville. The county's health department on Thursday announced the first drive-thru testing site will be located at the Elgin Sports Complex at 709 Sports Way on Dec. 22. Testing is offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The second site will be located at Dundee Crown High School, 1500 Kings Rd., in Carpentersville on Dec. 27. Similarly, this drive-thru site will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while supplies last. The county said testing is open to all attendees, even if they do not have symptoms. Those hoping to get tested must provide a name and phone number. A photo ID is not required. Free testing is also offered at a relocated site in Aurora, not stationed at 2450 N. Farnsworth Avenue, across from Chicago Premium Outlets. The Aurora site is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Testing in Aurora is offered to everyone regardless of age or COVID-19 symptoms, but a parent or guardian must provide consent for people younger than 18. Free testing is offered at a number of sites across Illinois. Find a testing site near you using the Test Illinois website. Testing at the Elgin and Carpentersville sites is performed using a nasal swab. The county warns a negative test should not shorten a quarantine period because the COVID-19 virus can take up to 14 days to be detectable by test. Test results are often returned in four to seven days.
